Planting Seeds

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.
— Robert Louis Stevenson

I love harvest time… that season of life when everything seems to be going right, when things are taking off, when opportunity is everywhere, when success comes easy.

I love the planting season too, though… plugging away at new ideas, battling through fits and starts, making small daily deposits into my future, watching the value slowly accumulate.

Harvest time is about external rewards, but during the planting season, the rewards are all internal. In my opinion, the internal rewards are every bit as compelling as the external ones.

Planting seeds, although a small act, is always how something big begins. While you don’t have anything to show for your work at the beginning, you trust that the work you’re putting in will matter and mean something in the end.

Don’t shun the small things. Plant your seeds. Do that and you’ll reap your harvest.
