The Divine Way

Love is not a feeling, or a special way of feeling, but the divine way of relating to others and oneself
— Dallas Willard

To say, “love is a feeling,” is like declaring that George Washington was a farmer. Sure, you’d be saying something correct, but you wouldn’t be giving us the truth. You’d be focusing on the wrong thing. You’d be missing the real Washington.

Love’s “real thing” is any action that has the effect of lifting up another. True love lifts. It wills the good of family, friends, coworkers, enemies, ourselves. This lifting up, this building up, this willing of the good is the Divine way.
