What Costs God Much Cannot be Cheap for Us

The only man who has the right to say that he is justified by grace alone is the man who has left all to follow Christ. Such a man knows that the call to discipleship is a gift of grace.
— Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Grace is a gift, yet it costs. But if it costs how could it be a gift? And if it’s a gift, then how could it cost?

Best to let Dietrich explain:

“It is costly because it cost God the life of His Son...and what has cost God much cannot be cheap for us.” It is a gift because “God did not reckon his Son too dear a price to pay for our life.”

God’s gift of Jesus cost Him dearly. Let us place a high value on that gift and not treat it cheaply. We do this by devoting our hearts, minds, bodies and souls to Christ.

Likewise, our life is also a gift from God. Let us not treat it cheaply, but invest our time in growth for the sake of our souls and the souls of others.
